AGL's Upstream Gas business was established to create a portfolio of equity gas investments that will provide AGL with the option to supply natural gas to help fill the difference between wholesale gas contract positions and our customers' requirements.  Upstream Gas aims to optimise the value of the AGL gas and electricity portfolio through exploration and development of its numerous petroleum assets on the east coast of Australia. We have a 12 month fixed term contract opportunity for an experienced Drilling and Completions Manager to join the AGL's Gas Operations team. 

Reporting to the Head of Gas Operations you will be responsible for managing an experienced team of engineers to plan and manage the drilling operations for new wells (vertical and horizontal) in AGL conventional and unconventional petroleum assets.  Additionally, you will oversee the development of workover and completion technical programs on new and existing wells across AGL Upstream Gas projects in accordance with good oilfield standards in a safe and environmental manner.

Whilst this position is based in North Sydney you will project manage drilling and completion operations for exploration and production activities across a variety of AGL Assets including NSW and QLD. 

As a Drilling and Completions Manager your key role responsibilities include:

  • Manage the drilling of new wells - exploration and production - across AGL Upstream Gas Projects.
  • Plan, supervise and provide the technical support for the logistical requirements of well drilling, workovers and completion operations across AGL Upstream Gas Projects.
  • Manage well completions, and well remedial work to prepare wells for production or enhance production as required.
  • Ensure technical support is provided during operations including the management of a AGL owned workover rig and crew .
  • Implement the AGL Safety Management Plan (SMP) and AGL Environment Management Plan (EMP) in gas production for all drilling, workover and completions programs across all AGL Upstream Gas projects.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for all roles that report directly to this role.
  • Contractor management including tendering and contract review.

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated horizontal drilling and completion experience coupled with strong leadership experience and the ability to multi task to meet deadlines and requirements.  You will have a sound health and safety knowledge of systems, process and relevant legislations. You will also be engineering Degree qualified preferably in Petroleum Engineering, however any other disciplines will also be considered.  You will be an effective communicator who is able to build strong relationships with key stakeholders within AGL as well as with external partners.

This unique role will give you an exposure to a number of different projects across the whole Upstream Gas portfolio in a wide variety of locations and operating environments. The projects include, coal seam gas, conventional oil and Gas, and gas storage.
