We are seeking an APS6 Legal Officer from the government or private sector with experience providing legal advice and undertaking case work.

Our client is based in the heart of the Woden shopping precinct and plays an important part in the defence of our nation. You will be working with a team of 10 lawyers with a government agency that has a large legal services branch.

This temporary contract position is initially to 30 June 2012 with an opportunity for an extension. You will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of policy and legal advice in relation to legislation and statutory interpretation, identifying risks and issues, amendments to legislation, drafting ministerial briefs and legal research and case work.

It is preferred, but not essential you have experience providing legal advice under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 ior the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004.

• Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills
• Proven capacity to manage multiple matters
• Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritse tasks
• Ability to work as part of a team
