Confidence & Vitality

Confidence is your belief in yourself. Ask yourself: Do you get the important points across about what you have to offer without being too pushy or apologetic?

Are you able to show your strengths as you learn about the needs of the job?  Can you manage your fear of rejection while maintaining a positive attitude?

Vitality includes your energy level, your alertness and enthusiasm, your ability to focus on and respond appropriately to what is being asked of you.

To make the most of your face-to-face first impression, we recommend that whenever possible, you sit in a straight backed chair.  It is very difficult to look alert and assertive when sinking into soft couches and deep chairs.  As you enter the reception area, remember to say hello to the receptionist.  Be aware of your posture as you wait for your interviewer.  Other ways to communicate your confidence and vitality include using a firm handshake and remembering to smile.  Maintain eye contact without staring at the interviewer.  Be aware of how rapidly you speak.  Are you racing or are you relaxed?  Try taking a deep breath if you need to slow yourself down.
